Last week I was on a mission to find a male, brown puppy of a largeish breed and kid friendly nature. My sister, niece, nephew and I made an early trip to an adoption fair at the City of San Bernardino Animal Shelter.
For more than a year now, I have been wating to add a large dog to the family and since doggies make bad times better and good times greater it just seemed like the perfect time. We even watched Cesar Millan’s 46-minute video “How to raise a perfect dog” the night before. Needles to say we were super ready.
This friends is our newest family member:
She is exactly the opposite of large, brown and male but my nephew really bonded with her. How are you supposed to say no to a 6-year-old boy holding a puppy? It is impossible.
It’s been a week since and I don’t regret our choice. I have found out that Chihuahuas are in fact not mutant rats but dogs and as such they come with all the perks (and responsibilities). Just in a more “carry everywhere” size.
I still have a spot in my heart for that handsome male dog but he will have to come along in the future.
